Nearly 2,000 Johnston residents voted in the sales tax ballot issue election held on August 6, 2019. Seventy-six percent (76%) of the Johnston voters chose to favor the sales tax increase and the plan to use at least 50% of the revenue to reduce property taxes.  The sales tax increase will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2020, and the property tax reduction will occur in the next City budget cycle. For more information about how the City of Johnston will use the proceeds from the sales tax see the special election website.
