The City of Johnston announced Wednesday that it would be updating its Johnston 2030 Comprehensive Plan over the course of the next year. Coordinating efforts to update the plan are Johnston’s Planning and Zoning Commission and the Johnston City Council, with assistance from Hoisington Koegler Group, Inc (HKGi) — a community planning and landscape architectural firm based in Minneapolis, MN.

Adopted in 2010, the Johnston Comprehensive Plan addresses various issues related to economic development and policy, including land use, parks, housing, transportation, and infrastructure. Considered a “visionary policy document,” the plan effectively directs how the city will continue to with innovation and expansion in then next 10-20 years. Since the plan’s adoption, Johnston has experienced tremendous growth in population and economic development, thus necessitating the need for a plan update.

Both the residential and working communities of Johnston will be provided with various opportunities to get involved and provide feedback to further the plan starting in late spring. The first community engagement efforts are expected to kick off in June 2019.

Information on the plan will be continually updated on the City’s website.
